As seen in Knitscene Fall 2006:

Photos by Jun Miyamoto

Motoko Ichikubo was spotted leaving a yarn shop wearing a coat made for her by her knitting mentor using Inca Wool from Inca Totsa.

Taeko Yamashita, a member of Tokyo Stitch and Bitch, models a scarf made of vintage Noro that a stranger gave her after seeing her knit in public. She’s hiding behind a dog mask she designed and knitted in honor of the Year of the Dog.

Naomi Inoue models a simple garter stitch using the “Yubiami” technique of knitting with fingers, popular in Japan. The yarn is from Avril, the Japanese brand name of Habu Textiles. She used four different yarns held together.

Kazuko Kumano is a knitting teacher at the Rowan yarn shop in Tokyo. Inspired by a Mark Jacobs design, she knitted this zip-up cardigan in Rowan Big Wool Fusion.

Kumiko Shiina on her way to a local Tokyo café that becomes the “hand crafty-café” every Saturday. She models mittens she knitted from Toshiyuki Shimada’s book, Hokuo-no knit komono-tachi (Northern European Knitted Accessories), using Online Linie 21.

Spotted at that same café was Seiko Ishii, wearing a Rowan Felted Tweed scarf she knitted from a pattern in Pam Allen’s Scarf Style.

Masumi Arakawa models a handknitted mohair sweater she designed as part of an exercise in knitting school.
